B house
The iconic hallmark of modernist architecture, pilotis, undergoes a metamorphosis into an intricate wall/lace.
Nestled within the stream bed, the plot is flanked by steep slopes, on the east and west side. The stream aligns with the north-south axis, coinciding with the paved road. Two-story residences rises, on the southern and northern fronts. The visual views constricting to a range of 6 to 50 meters.
Design includes the raising of common areas and strategic corner windows for extended vistas. Wall pleats create in-plot escapes to the atrium and veranda/garden. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and utility spaces. The floor extends southward, casting shade over the veranda and the 6x3 m opening.
The β-shaped fold acts as an entrance gate, shielding the veranda and unveiling the living area. It shapes the glass atrium bridging living and dining space. The kitchen's contours follow β-head, and a vertical split in β-form opens up movement between dining area and veranda.
The notion of lace finds embodiment in the wall's interplay between being a protective barrier and a selectively perforated facade, drawing attention to focal junctures.
